SOUDERTON, Calif.--Solar Atmospheres, a vacuum heat treating, brazing, and carburizing company, recently announced that it is opening a new plant in Fontana, California. After much due diligence, the company has selected a "green field" site in Fontana, California, 40 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, in what is referred to as the "Inland Empire." According to the company, a new 20,000-square-foot building will be built to its specifications on a 2 ½-acre plot. The entire project is expected to cost approximately $9 million.
Solar Manufacturing (www.solarmfg.com), a member of the Solar Atmospheres family of companies, is currently building two new vacuum furnaces for this project: a 24-foot car bottom, a duplicate of one of the company's four furnaces at its facility in Hermitage, Pa., and a 6-foot horizontal general purpose / vacuum / carburizing furnace, a duplicate of one its furnaces at its facility in Souderton, Pa. The site is projected to be operational in late summer 2010.
