Company Offers Product Design and Engineering with Electro-Mechanical Assembly

Electromechanical Assemblies

ASTORIA, N.Y--While many companies focus mainly on the complex task of electronic device assembly, one company in Silicon Valley takes it one step further by adding product design and engineering to the equation. Compass Manufacturing Services has been a product distributor since 1979, but over the years, the company has added cable and harness assembly, electro-mechanical assembly, and electronic component integration services. In addition, the company offers AutoCAD and SolidWorks Design and 100% electronic testing and inspection.

Although a good portion of the company's work is for the semiconductor and transportation industries, Compass Manufacturing also does work for the telecom, medical, military, solar, and renewable energy industries. Its high-tech work creates a variety of cable configurations, from flat ribbon and RF, to multi-conductor and complex harness assemblies. The company's electro-mechanical assemblies range from power distribution, control panels, and power supply racks, to flow sensor panels and system integration.

"Besides our assembly work, we also handle applications engineering and design work," says Compass Manufacturing's business development manager, James Grefe. "We're UL-508A registered (Underwriters Laboratories certification for industrial control panels), and we have applications engineers on staff. We can help clients who need engineering assistance, or help in designing a tool. We can actually come up with a design to the customer's specifications and help with product introduction, which is a value-added plus for our customers."

In 2007, Compass Manufacturing (www.ccicms.com) acquired an existing manufacturing plant located in a government-designated HUBZone (Historically Underutilized Business Zone) in Deming, New Mexico. The company now has 210 staff members operating out of two plants, with roughly 50% of the workforce at each site. "We've made a lot of investments in the past 24 months," says Grefe, "whether it's adding a solar roof array on our plant in Deming, New Mexico, or adding the UL-508A certification." The company has also added injection molding capabilities and a Class 10,000 clean room.
