Metals such as carbon steel and stainless steel, copper, brass and aluminum, acrylic plastic sheet, rubber, composites, and wood are cut with a laser system that employs the latest CNC technology. Materials can be obtained from outside sources or from in-house inventory. In some cases the customer supplies the materials. Stocking popular materials enhances quicker turnaround.
Prototype and short production parts can be cut by the laser in thicknesses from 0.002" to 1/2" thick. When special forms are required it is advantageous to have available CNC bending equipment that produces inexpensive form tools.
Tooling is an important service of the laser-cutting source. In addition to maintaining an extensive inventory of tooling shapes, the laser cutter should offer techniques to its customers that lower the cost of startup and finished parts. Drilling, tapping, light machining, tumbling, heat treating, plating, welding and general machine shop capabilities should be offered.
In order to accommodate all requests, the laser cutting company needs to be able to work from hand sketches or 3D CAD files. Laser cutting customers in the field exist in automotive, aviation, furniture, machinery, laboratory and many other industries.
