Laser Peening

Laser peening uses laser energy to induce residual compressive stresses into metal surfaces that are considerably deeper than those obtainable from conventional metal surface treatment processes. The deeper levels of compressive stress provide increased levels of resistance to fatigue and stress corrosion failure for the part.

Laser peening enables component designers and manufacturers to strengthen critical metal components in those areas where they are subject to fatigue mechanisms without having to add metal and additional weight to the part. This is particularly important in aerospace and other high performance applications.
