A linear motion bearing or slide is a bearing designed to provide free motion in one dimension. They are generally comprised of a sleeve-like outer ring and several rows of balls retained by cages. It features smooth motion, low friction, high rigidity, high precision, ease of assembly, ease of replacement, and long life. They are economical, and easy to maintain.
Linear motion ball bearings are used widely in the defense, precision machinery, medical instrument, chemical, printing, agriculture, robotics, automatic production line, etc. fields.
In the past all linear motion bearings used balls, whereas now, due to high performance polymer technology, plain bearings can be used. Typically this is made up of a low friction wear resistant polymer mechanically retained in a metallic housing which runs on a hard anodized extruded aluminum rail.
