HATFIELD, Pa.--Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI) has added Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy to its line of materials testing services, the company announced recently. The company is performing the analyses with a high-tech Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS10 FT-IR spectrometer.
An analytical technique used to identify organic, polymeric, and in some cases, inorganic materials, FTIR results in an absorption spectra which provides information about the chemical bonds and molecular structure of a material. Absorbance peaks provide information that can be used to identify the general types of material being analyzed. The analytical spectrum can be compared with cataloged reference spectra to identify base polymers and additives.
Fourier Transform Infrared analysis complements a wide range of instrumental and wet chemistry services that LTI performs for materials characterization and failure analysis in its Chemistry Lab. Qualitative and quantitative element analysis, even at trace levels, is also available for a variety of materials, including metals, powdered metals, ores, ferro-alloys, composites, and ceramics. Laboratory Testing Inc. reports that it is fully capable of preparing test specimens for all analysis.
Laboratory Testing Inc. (www.labtesting.com) is an independent laboratory specializing in materials testing, nondestructive testing, failure analysis, calibration services, dimensional inspection, and specimen machining. The lab is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by PRI/Nadcap and A2LA, which complies with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485.
