HERMITAGE, Pa.—The rise in production of additive manufactured components, along with the increased production of engine blade manufacturing to support newer, more efficient aircraft, have combined to increase the demand for hot isostatic pressing (HIP) as a method for densification of many materials.
In light of this, the commercial heat treating firm Solar Atmospheres of Western Pa., and the provider of hot isostatic pressing services, Pressure Technology, Inc. (PTI), are collaborating to offer a value-added service. Because the companies mutually recognize the complementary nature of their services, they have initiated an arrangement by which parts that require heat treat processing after HIP will be picked up by Solar Atmospheres from PTI’s Concord, Ohio facility at no charge.
“As both vacuum heat treating and [hot isostatic pressing] are gaining popularity, by providing the customer with both state-of-the-art services as one, we can offer quicker turnaround time and savings on shipping costs,” said Michael Johnson, sales manager for Solar’s Hermitage, Pa., facility, in a statement.
