Piezo Kinetics Expands Manufacturing Operation, Increasing Capacity for Production of Piezo Ceramic Parts

BELLEFONTE, Pa.–A major expansion of its manufacturing operation will enable Piezo Kinetics Inc., to increase capacity by 25 percent for production of piezo ceramic parts at its Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, headquarters facility, the company announced recently. Piezo Kinetics, a manufacturer of small and specialty piezoelectric ceramic elements and assemblies, said that it will add 10,000 square feet of manufacturing space–the company’s fourth expansion in eight years–in response to strong demand for its unique piezo ceramic products.

Piezo Kinetics, a company of the Crest Group, manufactures piezoelectric ceramics for a broad range of applications in the medical, aerospace, sonar, ultrasonic welding and cleaning, and industrial markets. The expansion will increase the size of the Bellefonte facility from 43,000 square feet to 53,000 square feet. The company has already broken ground for the new expansion, with start-up expected after Labor Day.

“As the industry has evolved through mass consolidation over the last several years, we believe this expansion will put us on stable footing as we expand our leadership position in the piezo ceramic industry,” said Todd Baney, sales and marketing manager for Piezo-Kinetics, in a statement.

The investment will include the use of new kilns and other machining and manufacturing equipment. A large part of the new space will be dedicated to prototyping and large part manufacturing, including include large cylinders. In 2017, Piezo Kinetics purchased Channel Technologies Group’s (CTG) Ceramics Division, a leading supplier of large ceramic cylinders.

Piezo Kinetics has experienced double-digit growth during the last three years and the company’s shipments in 2018 were 25 percent higher than previous years, said Baney. The company’s key market areas include medical devices (ceramic rings), sonar (large cylinders and plates), and aerospace and defense.

Piezo Kinetics expects to increase its current workforce of 70 employees with the hiring of at least five new workers by the end of the year, according to Baney.

Piezo Kinetics ( develops, manufactures, and tests standard piezoelectric ceramic shapes, which have numerous applications in durable goods. These represent distinct axes, polarization, capacitance, displacement, and voltage qualities. For non-standard piezoelectric ceramic forms and shapes for advanced applications, the company can provide specialized forms.
