Vention Partners with SMC to Enable Digital Engineering of Pneumatic Equipment

MONTREAL– Pneumatic technology is useful in supporting a variety of automated applications, including aerospace fixtures, robotic cells, complex conveyors, and custom manufacturing equipment. Now, engineers can design pneumatic equipment online, thanks to a recent partnership between Vention and SMC that enables digital engineering of the equipment.

Vention (www.vention.io), headquartered in Montreal, is the developer of a next-generation machine design platform. SMC, a provider of pneumatic technology for machine automation, is the Canadian subsidiary of Japan-based SMC Corporation.

Vention recently launched a new pneumatic ecosystem powered by SMC’s fully integrated plug-and-play system. The SMC pneumatic plug-and-play system, compatible with Vention’s digital engineering platform, was developed to seamlessly integrate with Vention’s cloud CAD (MachineBuilder 3D) and motion control platform (MachineMotion controller and MachineLogic cloud software).

Vention’s cloud-based platform for machine design is said to enable engineers and other manufacturing professionals to design, order, and assemble industrial-grade machines and custom factory equipment in just a few days. According to Vention, the new pneumatics integration enables an even broader range of applications to be quickly designed and built with Vention’s platform.

“We’re excited to be adding pneumatics solutions to our offering and expanding the type of projects we can develop with it,” says Etienne Lacroix, Vention’s founder and CEO, in a press release. “We looked for a credible industry leader who could provide reliable and high-performance products that would integrate seamlessly with the Vention ecosystem. SMC was the obvious choice. This partnership will provide exceptional value to our clients.”

Vention’s pneumatic ecosystem includes an air preparation station, dual-acting compact cylinders available in 100 mm and 200 mm stroke variants, tubes of various lengths, and one-, two-, three- and four-valve manifolds operated via Vention’s MachineMotion controller and MachineLogic software.

“Our partnership with SMC brings the best of the Vention platform together,” said Max Windisch, co-founder and CTO at Vention. “Users of Vention will be able to design pneumatic equipment online, develop and simulate the logic of their machine in the same environment, and deploy their pneumatic sequence directly to their shop floor, without having to install or learn proprietary software or programming language. Pneumatic projects will be greatly simplified as a result.”

Vention is backed by Bain Capital Ventures.
