MINNEAPOLIS, Minn--High strength, high heat resistance, and exceptional electrical properties are reported to be among the characteristics of bantam jack spacers and similar electrical/electronic components that are custom molded by Minnesota Rubber and Plastics (MR&P).

Bantam jack spacers are used in a wide range of telecommunication connecting devices. When precision molded of high-performance polyetherimide (PEI) by MR&P, the bantam jack spacers are said to offer "improved design function and cost efficiency" versus other material formulations, including similar metal parts. In addition to beneficial electrical features, the PEI bantam jack spacers have excellent hydrolytic and UV stability, as well as radiation resistance, the company says.

Reported to be well suited for repeated steam, hot air, and cold chemical sterilization, PEI is inherently flame retardant and can be used at continuous temperatures up to 375°. To add extra strength to the spacer design, the PEI resin can be reinforced with glass fibers and other reinforcement materials, such as carbon.

For an even more cost effective design, the custom bantam jack spacers may be combined with other high performance plastic and elastomer components to form a completed assembly. According to Minnesota Rubber & Plastics, these value-added services reduce component assembly time, material usage, vendor sources, and capital expense.

Minnesota Rubber & Plastics (www.mnrubber.com) offers comprehensive design services, including preliminary engineering assistance and mechanical design review; and materials engineering, including research and development in a full range of high performance plastics. The company provides rapid mold design and development, FEA analysis, prototype services, and process engineering. It also offers injection, compression, transfer, and liquid silicone rubber molding, including metal-to-plastics conversions.
