MTI Boosts Contract Welding Capacity by 40 Percent

Solid State Welding

Company Integrates Machinery Valued at Over $3 Million into Welding Operations

SOUTH BEND, Ind.--Manufacturing Technology Incorporated (MTI) has increased the capacity of its contract welding services by more than 40 percent with the addition of new machinery valued at over $3 million, the company has reported. Following its recent purchase of Transformation Technologies, Inc. (TTI), of Elkhart, Ind., MTI has integrated three new friction stir welders (FSWs) and a linear friction welder into its Washington Street facility in South Bend, Indiana. Besides increasing capacity, the expansion has reportedly enabled MTI to provide faster turnarounds and "increased the potential for high tech, low-cost solutions for its customers."

Equipment at the facility includes what MTI calls "the world's largest contract rotary friction welder." Several other specialized machines are scheduled to be added later this year, according to Bill Reinhart, the company's business manager for contract welding.

Manufacturing Technology, Inc. (www.mtiwelding.com) is an ISO 9001 certified company that provides contract welding services in addition to manufacturing a wide range of friction welding machinery. In the area of contract welding, MTI utilizes numerous types of friction welders in various sizes. The company offers tooling, prototyping, metallurgical evaluations and testing, application development, design resources, and research and development. Its production capabilities range from under 5 to over 500,000 pieces.
