Die Cut Parts from Thermally Conductive Gap Fillers
Philadelphia, PA - Stockwell Elastomerics, Inc. has announced the availability of die cut parts from two recently developed thermally conductive gap filler materials. The two new compounds TC2000 Gap Filler and R1040 4are reported to provide an effective thermal path between heat sources and heat sinks, in a variety of electronics and telecommunications applications. Both compounds are manufactured by Saint-Gobain, Performance Plastics Division.
Where a large gap is generated in assembly design, or where stack-up tolerances are unpredictable, the TC2000 Gap Filler provides a means of making intimate contact between components and heat sinks. TC2000 is a very soft, highly efficient, proprietary silicone formulation that conforms to surface contours and variations; high performance is achieved with low mounting pressure. According to the company, the tacky surface eliminates the need for an adhesive. TC2000 products are available in thicknesses ranging from 0.020 inch to 0.200 inch. (Thicknesses of 0.120 inch and greater meet UL94 V-1 rating for flame resistance.)
R10404 is a closed cell silicone sponge that is said to offer "true compressibility," thereby enabling parts to conform to severe surface profiles. Flexibility and conformability provide cushioning for mechanical shock and vibration. Compression in applications ranges from 10% to 50%; maximum compression set is 15%, per ASTM D1056. R10404 is available in thicknesses from 0.035 inch to 0.250 inch, and with a thermally conductive, acrylic adhesive backing. It also meets UL94 V-1 rating for flame resistance.
