Fastener Adhesive Meets GM Specs

Adhesive Coating Services

MACOMB, Mich.--Nylok (www.nylok.com), a developer of fastener technology and a manufacturer of value-added fastener parts, recently announced that its PRECOTE 85 fastener adhesive has been approved at GM to meet GM-6175M and GM-6194M test specifications. Nylok's turquoise PRECOTE 85 is a high-strength, pre-applied fastener adhesive that reportedly offers outstanding controlled torque-versus-tension properties, as well as excellent vibration resistance under high temperature applications. Resistant to temperatures up to 390°F (200°C), PRECOTE 85 can be applied to screws, studs, and non-standard parts, as well as threaded plugs and pipe threads, the company says.

"With this approval, we can now be specified for GM projects requiring more rigorous performance requirements in North America and around the world with GM specification GMW14657," said Nilo Urbani, general manager at Nylok. "PRECOTE 85 provides superior locking for automotive applications, such as power train and other high-stressed threaded bolts with controlled friction."

Maximum adhesive strength is reportedly achieved within six hours at room temperature. No uncontrolled post curing occurs, even after repeated temperature exposure, according to the company.

PRECOTE®, like other chemical adhesive products from Nylok, is designed to save manufacturing labor costs by eliminating additional locking devices and the need for "messy, inconsistent in-house application of adhesives." The chemical adhesives are said to be suitable for automotive, aerospace, electronics, telecommunications, and other high technology industries.
