Stampings - Shims, Gaskets, Seals and Washers
The manufacture of shims requires stamping capabilities to produce quantities from prototypes to high-production runs of conventional and specialty types. Conformance to exact specifications, such as MIL-45208A, allow shims as thin as 0.001" or as thick as 1". Shim types include solid, loose leaf, laminated, tab, arbor, edge bonded, motor, slitter and tapered roller bearing. The materials used are brass, carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, lead, plastic and copper.
Laminated shim stock is comprised of layers of metal foil. Each layer is 0.002", 0.003" or 0.005" thick. The foil layers are coated with a thin adhesive, compressed and bonded into a single sheet. Sheets can be any thickness, but typical sizes are 0.020", 1/6" and 1/8". Cut into shims, the sheets are used in aeronautical, armament, and shipbuilding applications.
The laminating process allows individual layers of foil to be peeled off with a knife blade on site to achieve the desired thickness for each shim. They come in brass, carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
Pre-cut shims made from Type 304 stainless steel are also offered. They come in thicknesses of 0.001", 0.002", 0.003", 0.004", 0.005", 0.010", 0.015", 0.020", 0.025", 0.050", 0.075", 0.100" and 0.125". A wide choice of frame numbers is also offered.
Custom die-cut, solid metal, hand-cut, spiral wound, flange and jacketed gaskets are available in non-asbestos, cellulose fiber, closed cell sponge, cloth-inserted rubber, cork, color-coded plastics, fish paper, Nitrile and Neoprene rubber, millboard, silicone, Teflon, urethane and wire-inserted materials. Additionally, die-cut insulators, seals, weather strips, vibration pads and novelty items are offered.
Manufactured on presses from 5 tons to 200 tons (including CNC presses) that feature automatic uncoiling, feeding and injection systems, stamped parts and specialty washers are offered. These parts can be made from any punchable materials, but specifically from spring steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminum, Nylon, Teflon, rubber and cork. Parts can be stamped from thicknesses of 0.001" to 1/4" in almost any shape or size. Waved, bowed or slotted washers can be sized from 1/4" to 36" diameter and thicknesses from 0.001" through 1/2".
Fluid seals made from a wide range of rubber and synthetic materials are applied as O-rings, compression packings, molded parts and hydraulic seals. Expansion joints, back-up rings, extruded cord, leather parts, tape and cord and Butyl tape can also be furnished. V-rings made from homogenous compounds and reinforced compounds can be custom ordered. Lathe cut rings are available in thicknesses from 1/32" and up, in diameters to 26".
Sealants to accommodate construction, industrial, military and aeronautical applications are also available. The complete supplier offers shipment dates with a guarantee of no freight or part charges if the date is missed.
