New Extruding Capabilities Enable Manufacture of Industrial Heating Components
LATROBE, Pa.--A new extruder recently installed by Morgan Technical Ceramics (MTC) at its Latrobe, Pa., site will facilitate the production of larger ceramic parts that are suitable for use in such industrial applications as thermocouples, thermostats, fuses, igniters, and heaters. According to MTC, the new extruder allows the manufacture of rods with an outside diameter (OD) of up to 1.5 inches and tubes with outside diameters up to 2.5 inches. Known for supplying precision micro parts (from 0.019-inch OD rods and from 0.050-inch OD tubes) for aerospace, electronics, and medical devices, MTC Latrobe says that its new capabilities will allow its application engineers to "apply their considerable materials knowledge and expertise to the high temperature requirements of applications in industrial heating and ignition systems."
Morgan Technical Ceramics offers a number of custom material formulations and blends--including alumina, steatite, magnesium oxide, and cordierite--that offer excellent electric insulation and mechanical and thermal properties and are particularly well suited for industrial heating applications. In addition to the new extruding capabilities, the MTC Latrobe site has automated high-volume glazing capabilities that are said to come in handy when applying coatings on components that require wipe-clean surfaces.
