Micro Barbed Valve is Ideal for Medical Industry, Manufacturer Says
Valve is designed to be easily inserted into 1/8-inch ID tubing
MORGAN HILL, Calif.--As devices continue to trend smaller, designers would be hard pressed to name two more important considerations than space and weight. With its extensive family of small, lightweight check and pressure-relief valves, component manufacturer Smart Products is well positioned to meet tight space and low weight requirements by offering precise and customizable products for a variety of industries, including medical.
When small size is a critical design consideration, Smart Products can offer what is claimed to be the smallest plastic check valve in the world today: the Model 101 Micro Barbed Valve. Measuring 0.375 inch in width and 0.180 inch in diameter, the Model 101 is designed to be easily inserted into 1/8-inch inner diameter (ID) tubing and is said to be ideal for the medical industry. Following a recent round of testing by company engineers, Smart Products is now able to sample the valve at an opening PSI of 0.461. It had previously been offered at an opening pressure range of 2-2- PSI, according to an e-newsletter released by the company in May.
Barbed to eliminate potential leak points, Model 101 is available in a unique silicone ball design, which holds the spring in place and controls the flow of liquids or gasses, or with a Buna-N sealing option. The valve is available in polypropylene, nylon, acetal, PVDF, polycarbonate, and Ultem® plastic body materials. Both polycarbonate and Ultem are Class VI materials that are highly suitable for the medical industry. According to the manufacturer, Model 101 is an excellent option for flow control in dialysis machines, medical test equipment, and ventricular assist devices. Beyond the medical market, the valve can be used in any industry with applications ranging from heating systems for oil rigs, to flight simulation equipment and ozone generators, the company says.
Smart Products (www.smartproducts.com) provides a number of services--including custom designs, special testing, and custom assemblies--to meet specific design criteria. The company can assist customers with creating an initial design concept and prototyping it through molding and assembly.
