Practical Ratio Guide for Determining Length and Complexity of Arms Economical advantages result from designing torsion springs within the parameters of a design chart (see below). As indicated, the arms of the spring can be made automatically with conventional tooling. Special arm lengths and shapes can also be produced with special tooling.
Information required for estimating, designing, and manufacturing torsion springs should include a complete end-use description and provision for the effects of friction and arm deflection on the torque. Also included should be O.D., I.D., material, operating temperature, frequency of deflection, and a detail of arm configurations.
