Surface Finishing

Surface finishing is the process of coating a metallic or plastic object with one or more layers of another metal, paint, or plastic to enhance, alter, or finish its surface with certain desired properties. The purpose of surface finishing is to provide an object with properties that the object does not have on its own. Surface finishing can improve an objectís appearance, provide corrosion or abrasion resistance, improve wear resistance, increase conductivity, solderability, or lubricity, as well as increase wear resistance and render items non-toxic. By changing the objectís properties, the economy of production, useful life, and use of the object can be improved.
