Threading is a machining process used on many different components. The two basic types of threads are:
- Threads used on fasteners, such as screws, bolts, studs, nuts and inserts to hold components together. Some fasteners, such as tapping screws, cut or form a mating thread when driven into holes.
- Threads used on components, such as lead screws, to transmit power and motion.
