Produced from hot-rolled tubes that have been carefully inspected and properly surface-conditioned, cold drawing consists of pulling a tube through a die and over a mandrel, reducing the diameter and wall thickness. Cold-drawn tubing offers uniform tolerances, enhanced machinability and increased strength over hot-rolled product. A variety of wall thickness and profiles can be produced on a broad range of sizes – two to 11.38 inches. Cold-drawn tubing can be supplied with a variety of thermal treatments, from a simple anneal to simultaneous OD/ID quenching, and can be furnished to custom lengths. Advantages of cold drawn tubing include:
- closer dimensional accuracy
- better surface finish
- enhanced machinability
- increased strength to weight ratio
- carbon and low-alloy steels
- flexible manufacturing
